The first edition of the event took place from May 28 to 30, 2014, in the city of Londrina, Paraná, and was promoted by the Department of Information Science of the State University of Londrina (UEL). In the I EPIM, it was obtained 100 (one hundred) participants, 19 (nineteen) oral communications were presented in different themes. It was published the annals in electronic format containing 20 (twenty) full papers that were evaluated by peers in the blind review system, approved and presented during the meeting.

The second edition of EPIM took place on May 28, 29 and 30, 2015, in the city of Marília, São Paulo, in a partnership with UNESP. Thirty-five papers were presented in oral communication format and later published in the proceedings.

The third edition of the event could not take place in 2016 and subsequent years due to strikes and, more recently, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Thus, the papers that had been submitted to the III EPIM were evaluated by peers in the 'blind review' system, approved and published in an E-book by Abecin Editora.

Thus, the third edition took place in 2021 in remote format, in an inter-institutional way between UEL and UNESP. The III EPIM was broadcasted via YouTube and the 31 approved papers were presented in Google Meet rooms and, later, published in the proceedings.

The fourth edition will also be held remotely, due to the instability caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The IV EPIM will take place between June 23rd and 25th, 2022. This time, the inter-institutional agreement (UEL/UNESP) was extended and the Federal University of Pará, through the Graduate Program in Information Science (PPGCI/UFPA), is one of the entities responsible for the event. The preliminary program includes 1 (one) opening conference, 2 (two) virtual round tables with 3 (three) speakers each, as well as moderators and secretaries. The papers in the approved full paper modality give the right to the publication of the work (full text) in the special issue of 2022 of the Brazilian Journal of Library Science and Documentation (RBBD), of the Brazilian Federation of Associations of Librarians, Information Scientists and Institutions (FEBAB).
